Requirements for Emission Monitoring of DG Sets

Often during the construction phase of projects, it is found that Diesel Generator (DG) sets are fitted with stack exhausts as displayed in the picture.

This facility does not support for appropriate monitoring of DG emission. Because it does not provide a sampling porthole (as shown in the photograph below and figure 2.3 sourced from Central Pollution Control Board Emission Regulations, Part III).

For example, if internal diameter (ID) of the stack is 8 inches sampling porthole should be located at a minimum 16.2 cm above the lower disturbing point and 4.1 cm from the upper disturbing point.

or anything that disturbs the laminar flow of exhaust gas stream

Please also note that the following photograph does not depict an appropriate sampling porthole location.

An appropriate sampling porthole location is as shown in the second photograph from the top.
Remember, an appropriate sampling location would bring in better results.

Kindly share this to those whom you feel should know. For any further assistance, please feel to email to sanjay.mishra@ecocorporate.com. Also leave your valuable comments, suggestions, and feedback.
